Here is a faded photograph showing the school orchestra that existed before Tajikistan's civil war.

The school takes its students from the surrounding housing estate. Many pupils come from very low income families. Others come from a lower middle class background. They have one thing in commobn. A love of music.

'The school is very poor instrumebnts, but they do have great enthusiasm. A lot of children study here.

The photograph is a reminder of the musical culture, once remarkable in Tajikistan but it has been nearly destroyed by the posty- soviet civil war.

All efforts to empower it again are very worthy endevers and ones I fully support.'
